I personally don’t think so, but apparently college presidents from about 100 of the nation’s best-known universities, including Duke, Dartmouth and Ohio State, are calling on lawmakers to consider lowering the drinking age from 21 to 18, saying current laws actually encourage dangerous binge drinking on campus.
I saw this on the news this morning while getting ready for work and I just sat there and shook my head. Lowering the drinking age for individuals will not cure binge drinking because being a certain age is not the reason these college students are drinking like this.
Colleges just want the age lowered because it will make life for them simpler and it makes someone else responsible for the issue.
It’s like these college presidents think that the age limit is this magic thing that will stop the binge drinking. Do they really think that the students that are 21 and over aren’t doing this as well. I’m afraid that logic just wreaks of a lack of Common Sense!
