Boy I bet that title got your attention didn’t it! I mean, who in the world could even consider not feeling compassion for this…

Well let me start by saying I love the little buggers, heck I don’t eat them so I have no intention on killing them. I am a Christian, I believe that God made me a steward of everything He blesses me with and one of those things is my environment. He said I can eat certain types of meat, fish, birds and even insects if I so choose but that’s up to me.
Now, for some strange reason I had an argument with a friend about this ‘clubbing baby seals’ issue and even one about drilling for oil in the ocean and Alaska because it would endanger the animals who live near by. He said humans are pushing certain species into extinction with our actions. He is an atheist, he does not believe in any form of God or higher power, he feels he is it and one day he will die and waft off into oblivion. So why the argument?
It is my understanding that as an atheist he subscribes to the Darwin theory of survival of the fittest, this is not an evolutionary issue, it’s all about Darwin and the biggest and baddest of the animal kingdom will rule. Darwin believed that the weaker species of all kinds must adapt or die, thus my argument for the seals…they must go.
I think even the biggest, smelliest, tree hugging hippy activist would agree that humans are at the top of the local food chain, not in hand to hand combat with a lion mind you, but with out technology and tools. So if we are the top, and our actions cause something to become extinct…then we are simply living the Darwinian Law right? My poor tree hugging friend was a little upset, mostly because he didn’t have a valid argument other than “it’s wrong”. Well if he believed in “Thou shalt not kill” as a directive from God I would say ok, but his position is from that of a non believer who thinks Darwin was right.
Once again Common Sense rules!

Sheryl Crow in a genius moment has come up with a way that we, as Americans, can fix the Global Warming by limiting their usage of toilet paper in the bathroom.
Saving the Earth: The Biodiesel Bus Blog
I really wish I was making this up, but she is truly serious. She is so serious that she has unwittingly inspired me to start a new campaign. I am going to start granting awards to the brightest minds of our current generation. She is now the first winner of the Illogical Thought Award (Actual Award Image Coming Soon) Her idea is so far outside the realm of common sense that she truly deserves this award. I hope that she will accept it with pride!
Here is her actual statement:
Crow (4/19, Springfield, Tenn.):
I have spent the better part of this tour trying to come up with easy
ways for us all to become a part of the solution to global warming.
Although my ideas are in the earliest stages of development, they are,
in my mind, worth investigating. One of my favorites is in the area of
forest conservation which we heavily rely on for oxygen. I propose a
limitation be put on how many squares of toilet paper can be used in
any one sitting. Now, I don’t want to rob any law-abiding American of
his or her God-given rights, but I think we are an industrious enough
people that we can make it work with only one square per restroom
visit, except, of course, on those pesky occasions where 2 to 3 could
be required.
At least she does allow for the occasional use of more than one piece for the most extreme cases. The problem is she keeps going, she now has another genius idea. I actually hope this one pans out so that, when I have kids, I won’t have to convince them not to wipe their mouth with their sleeve!
Here’s her idea once again:
Crow (4/19): I also like the idea of not using paper napkins,
which happen to be made from virgin wood and represent the height of
wastefulness. I have designed a clothing line that has what’s called a
“dining sleeve.” The sleeve is detachable and can be replaced with
another “dining sleeve,” after usage. The design will offer the “diner”
the convenience of wiping his mouth on his sleeve rather than throwing
out yet another barely used paper product. I think this idea could also
translate quite well to those suffering with an annoying head cold.
After research on the idea of the one piece of toilet paper, I think that THIS MAN has it all figured out!
Cheryl Crow should be very thankful that she has a singing career because I’m not sure she could do much else…

I’m not from New York so this doesn’t directly affect me but the idea behind it is the same.
A ‘Paw and Claw Tax’ Will Bite Pet Owners
This is just another crazy tax for the state of New York brought on by a Republican no less. We have come to expect more taxes from the Democrats, but generally the Republican Party wants a lower tax on things and individuals. It is supposed to go to the animal shelters but what are the chances that all of the money from this new tax will actually go to this purpose? I would guess-None! Your taxes never truly go where they are supposed to go!
The article has one of the most common sense things I have ever heard:
Economist Tom Sowell
once added up all the hundreds of billions of dollars that the
government spends on poverty programs—everything from food stamps to
Medicaid. The total was so large that if you just divided that huge
number by the number of poor families in America, you could raise the
annual income of poor families to levels solidly in the middle class.
In other words, if you just canceled all government poverty programs
and used that cash to cut a check for every poor person in America,
there would be no poor people in America.
I work for a government program and I see abuses of the system every day. People would be better off if we made them truly take care of themselves. We have created a society of dependents and that is never good. So much of the money that is supposed to be used for the “underprivileged” never even reaches them. It is either used by the program administrators or it is given to someone who worked over the system and isn’t truly even eligible.
We need to stop giving people things and start giving them hope.
